Molecular Diagnostics & Biomarker Discovery 2024: Conference and Exhibition

The Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), Universiti Sains Malaysia is pleased to organize our seventh international conference and exhibition on 3-4 July 2024 at G Hotel Gurney in Penang, Malaysia.

Since 2013, MDBD has been a major event in Penang on molecular diagnostics, biomarker discovery, and medical health technology.

The Organizing Committee extends a warm welcome to everyone – graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, academicians, researchers, medical doctors, clinicians, administrators, planners, leaders, and science enthusiasts to join MDBD2024.

We welcome you to share your research, services and products with researchers, policy makers and practitioners from the region with a direct interest in medical health technology. We are expecting about 200 participants from academia, industry and government to this year’s conference.

In addition to the publication of abstracts in the MDBD conference proceedings, participants have the option of publishing in BMC Proceedings (part of Springer Nature) for a fee of RM 450.00.

Research Grants

Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Call for projects: Combined challenges of ageing and socio-economic contexts in the Western Balkans and Southeast Asia

AFD is launching a research program to examine how demographic structures and dynamics as well as plural forms of socio-economic development are articulated/intertwined. The research should clearly identify, describe and analyze these articulations, both from an academic perspective but also with a view to informed operationalization and facilitation of dialogues that AFD conducts with its public partners in the countries of intervention.

Research projects should, as far as possible, involve the following disciplines: sociology, demography, geography, history, political science, urbanism and spatial planning, economics, legal and administrative sciences (taxation, social protection, employment), environmental and biodiversity sciences;

Global Talent Network: Nations Program Talent grants

Global Talent Network seeks to discover, nurture, and empower talented youth worldwide. The NATIONS program provides small grants to organizations that identify and nurture school students with the potential to excel in mathematics and STEM

  • Training Camps and Courses:  IMO Training Camps in Costa Rica, Mongolia, Pakistan, South Africa, etc.
  • Support National/Regional Olympiads: Philippines National Math Olympiad, OMCC, etc.
  • Establishment of New Olympiads/Competitions: Ethiopia National Math Olympiad, East Africa National Math Olympiad, etc.
  • Other Projects: Teacher training for Malaysia National Math Olympiad, etc.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
  1. Geography: The NATIONS Program welcomes applications from organizations across the globe. We encourage applications from all geographical regions. Applicants based in Europe please refer to our partners at STEM Talent Fund.
  2. Age range: High School STEM competitions
  3. Project types: Please refer to the four categories above
  4. Legal: We prefer applications from a registered nonprofit or under a fiscal sponsorship arrangement with a registered nonprofit. We will consider other applicants on a case-by-case basis.

  • Maximum funding: 20,000 USD for smaller projects or up to 50,000 USD for larger projects

UNCHR Innovation Service: Refugee-led Innovation Fund

The Refugee-led Innovation Fund champions the creativity of all displaced and stateless people. It aims to reshape their participation in the delivery of humanitarian work by ensuring they take centre stage in the decisions affecting their lives, leading the identification of needs and the design of innovative solutions.

The Fund provides holistic support – combining financial resources, mentoring, and other expertise – directly to refugee-led organizations, to enable them to design and deliver new interventions that have a lasting positive impact on their communities.

The Fund supports innovation by all organizations led by people with lived experience of forced displacement, including refugees, asylum-seekers, the internally displaced, returnees, and stateless people that are recognized within their communities due to their past significant contributions.

Applicants are asked to apply as a team, usually as part of an existing organization.

Women's Fund Asia Strengthening Feminist Movements (SFM) programme

The Strengthening Feminist Movements (SFM) programme supports feminist leadership, advocacy, capacities and network initiatives of women, girls, trans and intersex activists and groups at the subnational and national levels in Asia through core and flexible grants  that can be used by organisations to cover institutional costs or to fill funding gaps as per their needs.

WHO CAN APPLY:

  1. Open to women, girls, trans, and intersex rights activists, groups, and networks working at the local, subnational and national levels from 19 Asian countries:
  2. South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka
  3. Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam
  4. East Asia: Mongolia and Taiwan

Fellowships

The Awaji Youth Federation Fellowship Program (with salary and benefits)

The AYF Fellowship is a 9-month live-in working program on Awaji Island, Japan at the home of the Awaji Youth Federation, Manabi no Sato. It provides selected Fellows with the opportunity to challenge themselves and hone their individual skills in a multicultural environment that reflects both the needs of the Japanese workplace and the opportunities that come with a flexibly structured and stimulating `learning by doing` structure.

Guided by the philosophy of `Turning your Imagination into Action`, AYF works under the umbrella of the Pasona Group towards sustainable business solutions for society`s problems. AYF Fellows have a special chance to bring a unique global perspective to a highly localized regional community on Awaji Island in Japan.

Salary and benefits

  1. Monthly Salary (Base salary + Overtime):JPY 197,000
  2. Government Taxes, Pension and Insurance fees will be deducted
  3. Japanese class fees will be deducted
  4. Accommodation & Utilities included
Eligibility
  1. Experience: You’ve got 2-3 years of experience in one of our Fellowship focus areas. You thrive in startup environments and fast-paced settings, and you’re ready to take your skills to the next level.
  2. Age: In principle, you’re between 24-30 years old and ready to dive into this exciting opportunity. Individuals are assessed on merit, however we do not consider that the Fellowship is an appropriate opportunity for people aged 35 and above or. Those with significant  family and marital commitments should inform the Secretariat upon applying.
  3. Education: You hold a Bachelor’s degree or above as a legal requirement for the working visa, and showcasing your commitment to continuous learning and growth.
  4. Language Skills: You’re fluent in English (TOEIC 800 or equivalent), and if you’ve got a handle on Japanese (JLPT N1-N3)

  1. Hard Work and Discipline: You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and put in the effort to make things happen. Your discipline keeps you focused on achieving your goals.
  2. Empathy and Care: You understand the importance of caring for others and believe in the power of collaboration and support within a team.
