Change in the name of the University Research Ethics Office (Memo U2425-056)

I am pleased to announce that upon the endorsement of the Vice President for Higher Education and the recommendation of the Assistant Vice President for Research, Creative Work, and Innovation, I am approving the change in the name of the University Research Ethics Office (UREO). Effective immediately, this office will now be known as the University Research Integrity Office (URIO).

This change of name makes a clear distinction between this office and the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC), which is autonomous from the office, even as the office serves as the UREC’s secretariat. Moreover, the name reflects the University’s commitment to promoting research integrity in all its aspects, including but going beyond research ethics.

The office location remains the same, but its new email address is univresearchintegrity@ateneo.edu.

Please update any references to the old name in your communications and address any queries to the new email address.

The URIO reports to the Assistant Vice President for Research, Creative Work, and Innovation, Filomeno V Aguilar PhD, who concurrently serves as the Officer-in-Charge of URIO during the leave of Director Ma Elizabeth J Macapagal PhD this school year. Alvin Patrick M Valentin PhD has been appointed as the incoming URIO Director effective 1 January 2025 to 31 May 2027.
