Subject                     :

Most Reverend Teodoro Javier Buhain Jr DD (4 August 1937 – 13 November 2024)

Bishop Buhain

Ateneo de Manila University is one with the Catholic community in mourning the death of Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Javier Buhain Jr DD, who passed away on 13 November 2024.

Bishop Buhain became an auxiliary bishop of Manila in 1983- one of the youngest Filipino bishops at that time, serving under the late Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin. He was Assistant Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in 1977 and Secretary for the CBCP Commission on Migration and Tourism (1976-1977; 1980-1981).

From 1999 to 2004, he was Rector of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene- Quiapo Church.

Bishop Buhain entered the San Carlos Seminary after graduating from Ateneo High School in 1952. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 21, 1960.

Bishop Buhain will be laid to rest today, 19 November 2024, following a funeral mass at the St Michael the Archangel Parish in Bacoor, Cavite.

We request the Ateneo community to keep Bishop Buhain and his family in your prayers.

✟
Eternal rest grant unto Bishop Teodoro Buhain, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.
