Welcome with Hope to the Second Semester! (HE Memo#Y3.01)

06 Jan 2025 | Office of the Vice President for Higher Education

HE Memo#Y3.01
6 January 2025

TO:

The Higher Education Community

FROM:

[Sgd] Maria Luz C Vilches, PhD
Vice President for Higher Education

SUBJECT:

Welcome with Hope to the Second Semester!

Happy New Year!

And welcome back to Ateneo de Manila this Second Semester. Actually, some of you might still be enjoying your holiday since classes won’t begin till a few more days from now.  Take your time!  Nevertheless, the offices are open again and so, welcome to colleagues from the admin sector!

This second semester is activity-filled.  Rockwell campus is celebrating 25 years of existence this month of January. A good fit for the good harvest at the bar exams too.

Some highlights that we keep in heart and prayer! In February, Ateneo de Manila will have its Institutional Assessment by AUN-QA.  In March, PAASCU is doing an accreditation visit of our graduate programs in Loyola.  In between these visits, we will be busy with budget committee meetings and presentations to different audiences.

This semester, ASOG will be launching its Local Health Systems Empowerment and Access Toward Universal Healthcare (LEAD-UHC) project with USAID. At the same time, its focusing on its executive education programs for LGUs and continuing assistance in political and electoral education in the run-up to the May mid-term elections. I’m sure that the other schools in Ortigas and Rockwell have their own big events that characterize their second semester scenarios.

Then, at Ateneo College, our awarding ceremonies:  minors graduation in SOH and SOSS; awards for excellence and service, awards in the arts, science awards, and many more ceremonies to do with student achievements. Then, not to forget, exams, of course! And finally graduation in June.

For the Faculty, an event to look forward to is the University Scholarly Work Awards that will take place in April.

We welcome the New Year, 2025, with hope in our hearts.  We are Pilgrims of Hope, as Pope Francis envisions us to be in this Jubilee Year of Hope.  We open doors of hope for many people beginning with where we are.

“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.” – Romans 5.5.

I continue to trust in the strength of our community to support each other in our mission of education and in the ministry of our hearts for each other.
