SUBJECT:

2025 Emergency Preparedness Drill

Please be advised that an unannounced emergency drill will be conducted within the month of October. The drill will be headed by the Local Unit Emergency Response Team and the Building Emergency Response Team Heads (BEAT Heads), in coordination with the Campus Safety and Mobility Office (CSMO).

The emergency drill shall consist of three categories: shelter-in-place, earthquake, and campus shutdown. The drills will serve as practice sessions for all emergency evacuations that we may possibly encounter in the future.

SHELTER-IN-PLACE DRILL (in situations where there is imminent threat to one’s safety)

An announcement over the public address system (PA system) will signal the start of this drill. Those who are indoors will be asked to close all the doors, windows and window blinds of their rooms, turn off all lights, seek cover, put all mobile phones and gadgets on silent mode, and maintain complete silence. Those who are outdoors will be asked to go to a safe and secure place, put all mobile phones on silent mode, and maintain silence. Everyone is expected to remain under cover and maintain silence until another announcement is made to end the drill.

EARTHQUAKE EVACUATION DRILL

A siren, similar to a ship’s distress call, will signal everyone to do the Duck, Cover, and Hold (DCH) procedure. Once the siren stops, everyone is requested to take their personal belongings and to proceed immediately to their designated evacuation assembly area (EAA) where the headcount procedure is performed.

CAMPUS SHUTDOWN (when situations necessitate the evacuation of the entire campus)

The campus shutdown drill will commence at the emergency assembly area (EAA). A campus evacuation will be simulated to the designated gates of exit (note: in an actual campus shutdown situation, everyone is made to exit the campus on foot; no one will be allowed to exit the campus in their vehicles). Students and employees will not be asked to leave the campus during the campus shutdown simulation.

At the end of the campus shutdown drill, an announcement will be made at the EAAs through the PA system, to request everyone to return to their classrooms and offices.

EVACUATION ASSEMBLY AREAS (EAAs)

Only three (3) wide open areas serve as EAAs: 1) Bellarmine Field, 2) Baseball Field (behind New Rizal Library), and 3) Ocampo Field (behind Matteo Ricci).

IMPORTANT NOTE TO THE FACULTY MEMBER/OFFICE HEAD

Each class’ attending faculty member and office/department head is required to submit a complete Headcount and Missing Persons Report to their assigned Building Emergency Assistance Leaders (BEALs) at the end of the earthquake drill.

Classrooms and offices are equipped with proper signages that act as quick guides on emergency protocols.

I look forward to everyone’s cooperation in this important exercise to ensure the community’s preparedness for disaster response and compliance with safety measures.

Thank you very much.
