The Ateneo de Manila University provides sustainable and widely accessible channels of commuting within the campus, which includes the following: e-jeeps, bicycle lanes and accompanying safety guidelines, a High School carpooling system, and interconnected walkways located around the campus.

E-Jeepneys

Ateneo was the first academic institution to introduce an in-campus e-jeepney shuttle service—a feat that was made possible through a partnership with Meralco. Currently, it has six 14-seater electric jeeps to service the community and provide a means for students, employees, staff, and visitors to quickly go around the campus. Through the e-jeepney system, the University hopes that in-campus traffic congestion will be reduced, and Ateneo’s carbon footprint will be minimized.

Then-President Fr Jett Villarin says that this initiative aims to create a positive impact on the University: “We hope that the students under our care—someday they will lead, someday they will wield the levers of power—make the decision for sustainable and shared mobility.” Below, you can find the routes of Lines A and B of the E-Shuttle as a PDF.

Bicycles

Ateneo also encourages alternative modes of transportation such as bicycles by installing 16 bicycle racks with over 78 slots in various locations throughout the campus. The University’s Campus Safety and Mobility Office (CSMO) has issued the ADMU Bicycle Use Guidelines to foster a safe environment for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists on campus. This ensures that bicyclists adhere to safety and campus traffic regulations within the University at all times.

Ateneo High School Carpool System

The Ateneo High School carpool system is also part of the University’s greener mobility initiative. The carpool system is efficient, orderly, and accessible, as it features multiple drop-off points throughout the campus for the convenience of the students. The following data proves the effectiveness of this initiative: approximately 750 vehicles were reduced along Katipunan Avenue in the morning, and 600 cars in the afternoon.

Interconnected Walkways

Ateneo also has multiple interconnected walkways located at the main points of the campus for the ease and convenience of its pedestrians. Aimed to encourage campus walkability, these walkways are built with overhead protection to safeguard pedestrians at all times—rain or shine.
