Ateneo de Manila University receives Platinum Award recognition from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines

Ateneo de Manila University, through the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO), received a Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) last 18 April 2022. This is the highest award accorded by the IPOPHL for the country’s 2021 top and high-performing Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) under the ITSO 2.0 Program. ITSO is composed of more than 100 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and research institution-partners of IPOPHL in the Philippines.

The 2021 Platinum Recognition Award is given to ITSOs that file at least seven invention patents and have commercialized or assisted in the commercialization of at least one technology through licensing, among other modes, including putting up one start-up for the technology. In 2021, ADMU filed eleven (11) invention patents and successfully commercialized utility models, the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and the Device for Remote Water Quality Monitoring through a Licensing Agreement with EnviSense Scientific, Inc. ADMU also received awards for the Bronze and Gold categories. Bronze was awarded to the University for integrating and offering a three-unit Intellectual Property (IP) subject in its academic curriculum. Gold Recognition Award was given for having drafted and filed eleven (11) invention patents in 2021.

AIPO continues to provide support to innovators in the country through conducting various collaborative efforts and programs that help strengthen the capacities of their clients. This award proves to be a good indication of realizing its vision to be the country’s leading university hub where innovative solutions are inspired, protected and made available for society’s benefit.
