AIS launches sustainability guide for theatre
13 Apr 2023 | Daniel C Ratilla
The Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS) has recently released the Sustainable Eco Theatre Packet: Strategies for a More Sustainable Theatre, a document developed for the organization of the same name.
The Sustainable Eco Theatre project was the recipient of the 2022 Areté + AIS Sustainability Sandbox Grant, a residency grant that provides resources for incubation and experimentation. This grant is dedicated to issues of sustainability and Ateneo de Manila University’s thrust towards integral ecology.
Consistent with the aims of AIS and the Sustainable Eco Theatre, the packet is a compilation of strategies that theatre groups, practitioners, and advocates may use as a reference for a more sustainable theatre production. Driven by the need to incorporate environmental and sustainability concerns into diverse work streams, it is AIS’ hope to contribute to mainstreaming this process by providing the packet to help increase awareness and turn this into actionable change. Recognizing that time, resources, and knowledge are barriers to creating a more sustainable theatre, the packet is meant to be an aid, and discusses relevant principles, approaches and strategies, practical tools, and case studies.
As it is in its pilot version, AIS welcomes feedback from any theatre groups and like-minded organizations. Furthermore, it hopes to someday include case studies from the Philippines and from the Southeast Asian region in future versions to address this dearth in the literature.
The packet may be downloaded from this page. Feedback for the Sustainable Eco Theatre Packet may be sent to ais@ateneo.edu.
