Born from literature, memory, and grief, Sisa returns to the figure of Rizal’s most wounded mother and listens to her again, this time through the voices of women whose lives have been shaped by violence in our own time. Drawing from the lived experiences of mothers affected by state violence in the Philippines and by the Israel-Palestine conflict, the performance asks how mourning, love, and resistance endure across history.

Show Dates:
28 to 30 January, 7:00 pm
31 January and 1 February, 4:00 pm
Selected shows will feature a Talkback with artists and invited activists.

Venue: Old Communications Building Blackbox Theater, Ateneo de Manila University

_____________________________________
A solo theatrical performance staged by the Ateneo de Manila University School of Humanities, Sisa builds on a version first presented at the 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair. The piece invites reflection on suffering, justice, and the fragile dignity of the human condition.

The performance is accompanied by solidarity activities and exhibits curated by Dr. Nikki Carsi Cruz.

Silingan Coffee's Courageous Hope Van, run by families of victims of Extra-Judicial Killings, will sell food and beverages. Komiket and the Philippine International Comics Festival, together with the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival, present Enter the Mulberry Tree and Fly Free (an exhibit of the work of Palestinian artists), and Safaa and the Tent (a fundraising comic book for sale).
