Lighting Up the Future: Liter of Light sets Guinness World Record with solar-powered display in Manila
06 Feb 2026
The Liter of Light, a social enterprise founded by alumnus Illac Angelo Diaz, set a Guinness World Record for installing the largest solar-powered light display on 30 June 2025, at Luneta Park in Manila.
Created from recycled plastic bottles, this solar light display not only showcases innovation but also provides renewable, affordable lighting to marginalized areas. Above all, such renewable energy resources as solar power will make a real difference to the daily lives of Filipino families.
“What we are building is more than just light; it’s a future where no Filipino child is left in the dark,” the founder shared. “Through this world milestone in sustainability, we are showing the world that grassroots action can drive global change, one solar lamp at a time.”
Illac Angelo Diaz, a true blue Atenean since Grade School, graduated from Ateneo de Manila University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management Economics.
