Nature’s Embrace: A Journey Through Masungi
07 Feb 2026 | Michael P. Ilumin (G1 and G6 Parent)
My wife and I, both nature lovers, eagerly joined a hike-retreat to Masungi. After leaving our kids with family, we set off early, energized by the warm welcome of the teachers and companions. Snacks in hand, we boarded the bus and prepared for the challenge ahead.
The trail began with steep steps that quickly reminded us to slow down and savor the journey. In a clearing, we paused to connect with nature—serenity replacing city noise, birdsong filling the air.
At “Silungan sa Batis,” we learned about forest restoration and its importance for future generations before facing the daunting “400 steps.” With patience, rest, and encouragement, the climb became manageable, teaching us that big goals are achieved one step at a time.
At the summit, strong winds and panoramic views refreshed our spirits. Soon, the promise of a “Minalot” meal carried us to the pavilion, where cold towels and food awaited. We reflected together, sharing insights from the trek. For me, the “400 steps” symbolized perseverance and support, reminding me that progress comes steadily, breath by breath.
The descent tested us again, but with walking sticks and mutual care—especially supporting my wife—we made it back safely. Civilization’s sounds welcomed us home, hearts full and bodies renewed.
