Sustainable University Master Plan
I am pleased to announce that at its regular meeting held on 15 November 2025, the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees approved the Sustainable University Master Plan.
The Sustainable University Master Plan outlines:
- the seven principles on how we envision to operationalize sustainability in all campuses;
- the seven-part definition and 22 end states of a sustainable Ateneo de Manila, and;
- the 55 targets on how we will measure our growth in this commitment in the short- (by 2027), medium- (by 2030), and long-term (by 2050).
Aligned with the definition of integral ecology, the document highlights the University understanding of sustainability not only as environmental stewardship, but its intersection and interdependence with social well-being and economic management. This document was developed in response to the commitment of Ateneo de Manila to be a Laudato Si’ University.
Spearheaded by the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability, the Sustainable University Master Plan was developed through a recursive and consultative process which includes 27 community consultations and two rounds of asynchronous review, as well as a thorough review of our existing commitments and policies. This process informs the construction and revision of other University plans, such as the Climate Action Plan, Biodiversity Action Plan, and Land Use Master Plan among others.
The Sustainable University Master Plan can be accessed via https://go.ateneo.edu/SustainableAteneo.
Given that sustainability is a multifaceted issue, and in light with our view of sustainable development as a common but differentiated responsibility, I invite everyone to continue to contribute to our shared ministry on integral ecology. May the Sustainable University Master Plan rekindle our mission on addressing the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.
