ASOG holds Workshop on Input-Output (I-O) Analysis
17 Dec 2019
The Ateneo School of Government (ASOG), through the Ateneo Policy Center, conducted a two-day Workshop on Input-Output (I-O) Analysis last December 13 and 14, 2019 at Pacifico Ortiz Hall, Ateneo de Manila University. The workshop introduces the basic input-output framework, such as the quantification of direct and indirect links between buyers and sellers; estimation of economic shocks; and other applications.

Dean Ronald U. Mendoza opened the workshop with an introduction of Dr. Victor Venida, an expert in Input-Output study. In turn, Dr. Venida shared his decades-worth of experience in IO analysis. He noted that with the advent of technology, what once took a whole semester to be taught can now be compressed into a two-day workshop. He also reminded the participants that knowing the numbers is not sufficient—there is a need to match quantitative skills with the ability to interpret results in the proper context.
Mr. Donald Bertulfo, an Economist/Statistician consultant in the Asian Development Bank (ADB), served as the instructor for the workshop. The participants were instructed on the use of the statistical software, R, in conducting I-O analysis. The topics included in the workshop were Basic Matrix Operations for I-O Analysis, Basic I-O models, Linkage Models in Identifying Key Sectors and Structural Decomposition Analysis.
