Alphan Lomibao wins gold in Hippo English Language Olympiad PH round

Recent Ateneo de Manila Grade School graduate Alphan Lomibao (6-Xavier, Class of 2021) won gold and silver awards in two English language competitions held earlier this year. The gold award was for the level 1 division of the Hippo International English Language Philippines preliminary round, which was held online on February 28, 2021. The silver was for the “Bee 5” category/division of the Eurasia Spelling Bee Philippines preliminary round, which was held online on April 25, 2021.

The Hippo Olympiad is an international competition which promotes the English language, challenges students from around the globe to compete in their knowledge of English, and fosters the development of a shared sense of World identity and integration. It is open to students aged 6 to 19 from all over the world.

The Eurasian Spelling Bee promotes Lexical skills in the English language and challenges students from countries where English is taught as a foreign language. It inspires students to read more to encourage them to learn the major principles and patterns of English, expand their vocabulary, and work on their pronunciation. It also enhances the students’ development of poise and communication under pressure.
