Aurea C Javier is new director of Ateneo Korean Studies Program

The Ateneo Korean Studies Program welcomed its new director, Aurea C Javier, LPT,MPP. She began her term on 1 June 2022.

Javier is currently a full-time Instructor in the Korean Studies Program. She teaches KRN 11 to 13 (Korean Language and Culture – Levels 1 to 3), KOR 111 (Introduction to Korean Culture and Nationalism), KOR 113 (Korean Popular Culture), and Levels 1 to 4 of KSP’s Extramural Language Courses being offered to the public.

She began her engagement with the Ateneo de Manila University in June 2014, serving as a guest lecturer for Korean Language Courses for five years at the Ateneo Center for Asian Studies (ACAS). She then formally joined the Korean Studies Program as a lecturer in January 2020. She served as a guest lecturer for Korean Language Courses at Batangas State University and Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas. She is also the resource speaker and a member of the Evaluation Committee of the Provincial Government of Batangas for its Seasonal Farm Workers Program that it jointly undertakes with the Chuncheon City government in South Korea.

During the pandemic, she represented the Philippines at the 2021 Training for Foreign Specialists of Korean Language, organized by the National Institute of Korean Language in Seoul, Korea. Moreover, she appeared in the recent short interview series ‘Meet the K-STANS in the Philippines’ produced by the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines.

She also served in several teaching and administrative positions in various institutions and worked in the private sector in the past. She has rich experience as a Licensed Professional Teacher, a TESDA Korean Language, and Culture Trainer, and is a member of the Philippine-based Teachers of Korean Language Network (PHILTOKEN) – an organization that aims to contribute to the development of Korean language education in the country. She was also longtime Managing Director of their family-owned learning center in Batangas City from 2005 to 2019.

She finished her Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Major in International Relations and Political Economy at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management, Seoul, Korea in 2001, where she received the Outstanding Thesis Award. She was also a Global Ambassador Scholar at KDI School from 2000 to 2001, and a Seoam Foundation Scholar at the Seoul National University from 1997 to 1999. She is currently finishing her Doctorate in Education, Major in Educational Management at the Batangas State University.

Her research interests include Philippines-South Korea trade relations, Korean language education, and educational management.
