UNITED STATES – The Oklahoma State University – Center for Health Sciences has agreed to settle and pay the financial penalty being imposed under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This came after its violations of the HIPAA Privacy, Security and Breach Notification requirements, led to the hacking of the school’s server, exposing electronic health information.

UNITED KINGDOM – The City College of Norwich has promised to conduct an investigation in the wake of an incident wherein personal details were emailed by mistake to a lone parent. UNITED STATES – The Wisconsin Supreme Court has allowed a school policy that protects the right of some transgender students to stay in effect while the case moves forward. The said policy, which prevents school officials from disclosing a student’s change in names or pronouns without their consent, has been contested by some anonymous parents. READ HERE

INDIA – According to a report by the cybersecurity firm Sophos, educational institutions have become the target of hackers today. The lack of strong cybersecurity defenses and such organizations being rich sources of personal data are reasons why ransomware attacks have increased significantly for the said sector.
