30 August 2022

For more than two years, the pandemic has tested Ateneo de Manila’s capacity and commitment in taking good care of our people: administrators, faculty, staff, and professionals.

Despite the difficult financial and logistical constraints of maintaining operations in a drastically altered economic and educational landscape, we are proud to have kept all our personnel employed and avoided any lay-offs, ensuring that our employees continued to have a stable means of livelihood.

Aside from this, the University extended a number of significant financial and non-financial assistance programs to all employees, which allowed them to take good care of their families and address many financial issues that arose from the multiple crises we all faced. This included Blue Aid, the University Vaccination Program, and medical assistance programs. The community also put their hands and hearts together in initiating joint programs like Kapit-Katips and the Solidarity Fund for COVID-stricken employees and their family members..

Therefore, even in the most difficult of times, our entire community remained hopeful and optimistic, putting our core educational mission first and foremost because we, as one Ateneo de Manila community, all worked together to ensure that we are taking good care of everyone to the best of our abilities and resources.

It is in this setting that the Administration and the Ateneo Employees Workers Union (AEWU) will begin its negotiations for the last two years of the 2019-2024 Collective Bargaining Agreement on Wednesday, 31 August 2022.

As we enter this new round of negotiations, Ateneo de Manila reaffirms its vow to do what is fair, just, and equitable for all members of the community, so that our University remains strong and stable in the years to come to be able to fulfill our educational mission in service of the nation.

We ask the community to pray for everyone involved in the negotiations, for clarity of thought, openness, fairness, and honesty. We pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the intercession of our patroness, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, so that the conduct of the negotiations remain professional and amiable as both parties strive to reach an amicable agreement that is fair to everyone.
