Four Ateneo teams among top global teams in Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge

Four Ateneo teams placed in the top 13 among 246 teams participating globally in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge.

Students from the Ateneo de Manila University placed in the top 13 of competing teams in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge (formerly the Financial Modeling University Championship), held in October 2022.

The Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge is a global competition for university students that tests Excel modeling and logical thinking skills. The competition involves case studies and preparation of financial models under individual and team categories.

The competition was organized by the Financial Modeling World Cup and the University of Arizona - Eller College of Management.

Four Ateneo teams—Team JAM, Team Z8, Team Tala, and Team Mutya—placed in the top 13 out of 246 teams competing globally. The four teams from Ateneo de Manila University were among the top six participants from the Asia Pacific region. They were also the highest-ranked Philippine teams in the first two rounds.

Team JAM, comprised of Management Engineering seniors Alessandra Martine N. Ching and Julianne Tobe D. Lee, and Management senior Marco Antonio D. Escalona, placed 3rd overall. Team Z8, comprised of Management Engineering seniors Isabelle Beatrice D. Gonzales, Germaine Marie O. Guinto, and Jacob Vince M. Macatangay, placed 4th overall. Team Tala, comprised of Management Engineering seniors Maria Sophia Alexea H. Arcilla, Beatrice Marie D. Chan, and Martina Julia P. Nacion, placed 9th overall. Team Muyta, comprised of Management Engineering seniors Darren Peter M. Carandang, Joyce Heidi J. Ong, and Czarina M. Recalde, placed 13th overall.

The teams were supported in their efforts by Alfonso Miguel N. Sevidal from the Department of Finance and Accounting.

Team JAM and Team Z8 will advance to the in-person finals in Tucson, Arizona on December 3 with the other three teams in the top five.
