Dr. Isabel Pefianco Martin, Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, presented the school’s research agenda, highlighting the country’s need for relevant and high-impact research to help shape educational policies. She also discussed GBSEALD’s professional doctorate, the Doctor of Education (EdD), with three specializations that students could choose from: (1) Educational Leadership and Administration, (2) Learning and Teaching, and (3) Catholic Educational Leadership and Pedagogy

Fr Francis Alvarez SJ, Chair of the Department of Catholic Educational Philosophy and Practice, presented the academic research doctorate, the Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PhD in Education), as well as the scholarships available for deserving students: the Dra Rosario Bustos Atencio Scholarship Fund for the Education of Public School Teachers and the Vicente Tiu Lim Teacher Education Endowment Fund.
Mr. Galvin Ngo, Ateneo SALT Director, moderated the Open Forum that followed. Aside from the usual practical questions about the programs, particularly noteworthy was the interest in the Catholic education track offered in our EdD. As Fr. Francis said, it is the only one in the country–quite surprising if we note that there is a vast and strong network of Catholic schools and universities in the Philippines.

Johnny spoke for the team when he told the attendees: “We are eager to accompany you and guide you in finding and developing your intellectual voice and identity.”
