The AGS Community held a successful National Book Week celebration from November 21 to 25, 2022. Activities were held that catered to all the members of the community and emphasized the importance of reading.
The Book Week Celebration kicked off with Book Character Shirt Day, which saw students coming to school wearing shirts depicting their favorite literary characters.
Some students also showcased their creativity by donning the costumes of their favorite characters, such as Ash from Pokemon, Denji from Chainsaw Man, Tobi from Naruto, and Harry from the Harry Potter books.
Teachers and staff also wore the National Book Week 2022 shirt designed by Mrs. Ruby Punay.
Students and teachers actively participated in the various contests held in the KEMC. The boys answered daily library trivia questions which tested their knowledge and research skills, while the KEMC Team visited the Grade 1 classrooms to hold the daily classroom trivia.
Teachers and staff also got the chance to win prizes in the Spin-the-Wheel trivia and the Daily Surprise.
Newly acquired books were displayed for students and teachers to borrow, while publishing houses joined the week-long Book Fair and sold their latest publications in the AGS Lobby.
Storytelling sessions were held for kindergarten students in the KEMC Carpeted Area, and featured guest storytellers who read local children’s stories to the boys.
Underlying the festivities is the core message that reading opens the minds of children and paves the way to a brighter future.
For the KEMC, the active participation of the entire AGS community showed that students continue to love reading books even in the age of the internet.
The KEMC believes that books continue to serve as primary sources of relevant information especially in the face of online disinformation and historical revisionism.
