Norman Boquiren’s children’s story is first prize winner of Carlos Palanca award

Norman Boquiren, faculty of Ateneo de Manila Senior High School’s Filipino subject area, was awarded first prize for his short story for children, "Si VeRaptor1 Laban kay Trolakuz," at the 70th Carlos Palanca Awards for Literature. Mr. Boquiren won in the Filipino division of the Maikling Kuwentong Pambata category and received his medal at the awards ceremony held on November 30, 2022, at Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Mr. Boquiren was one of 59 writers honored in 22 categories at the ceremony, and also one of its 28 first-time awardees.
Established in 1950, the Carlos Palanca awards are dubbed as the Philippine equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize and are considered “the gold standard in writing excellence” per the Palanca organization. The awards were not given in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic.
