AGS successfully holds two days of Emergency Drills

23 Jan 2023 | by Orly Van Andre B. Putong

Emergency Drills

In partnership with the Campus Safety and Mobility Office (CSMO), the AGS conducted two days of emergency drills on January 16 and 17, 2023. The drills aim to prepare students, faculty, and staff for emergencies such as fires and imminent threats inside campus.

During the first day of the drills on January 16, the students practiced shelter-in-place. An announcement was made via the school PA system signaling the start of the drill at 8:00 am. Students then applied what they were taught about how to properly conceal themselves in case of a threat.

On the second day of the drills on January 17, the community held the fire drill and campus shutdown. The fire alarm rang at 8:00 am to signal the start of the drill. Students were guided to their respective evacuation areas by their teachers. The faculty then conducted a headcount of the students at the emergency pick-up points and another headcount after they returned to their classrooms.

Fire extinguishers, wheelchairs, and other emergency devices were also deployed which showcased the preparedness of the school’s personnel during emergencies.

Faculty members also took note of the time of evacuation of their respective sectors and provided feedback.

The students showed discipline and alertness by evacuating in a swift and organized manner. They were able to successfully go to their respective evacuation areas within minutes after the alarm rang and later returned to their classrooms within the allotted time.

According to the AGS Local Unit Emergency Response Team (LUERT) and the CSMO, the active participation of the entire AGS community as well the students’ learning partners and guardians made the drills successful.

We always pray that no emergencies happen, but it is important to be prepared. Emergency drills foster the creation of a safer and more secure environment for learning.
