Stanford Club supports ACED; hosts day of service

The Stanford Club of the Philippines renewed its partnership with the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) to provide meals for 100 malnourished public school children for a period of eight weeks. This year, the children will be from Project 6 Elementary School in Quezon City.

The Stanford Club decided to renew its partnership with ACED because the Club places a strong emphasis on support for education. A significant component of educational support is ensuring that students have enough nourishment for a day of challenging academics and learning activities. Andrea Sy, President of the Stanford Club, says that lack of nutrition is one of the primary causes of poor academic performance among pupils.

To mark the renewal of the partnership, the Stanford Club decided to host 50 public school students from Project 6 Elementary School on 19 November 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ateneo de Manila College Covered Courts for its annual Stanford Club Day of Service.  This was the first Day of Service held on site after two years of pandemic lockdown. During the event, the public school students participated in story-telling activities led by Chase Salazar of the Stanford Club and participated in games facilitated by other Stanford Club members.

Fr Bienvenido Nebres SJ, former President of Ateneo de Manila University and a graduate of Stanford University, opened the event with a prayer and some opening remarks where he thanked the Stanford Club for their support and he asserted that supporting children's nutrition is crucial. Dr Carmela Oracion, director of ACED, closed the event by thanking the Stanford Club members for their concern for the welfare of the students and enjoining the students to give their best in their studies.
