Ateneans win 1st runner-up in 22nd Indonesia Capital Market Student Studies equity research conference

Students from Ateneo de Manila University placed as first runner-up in the Indonesia Capital Market Student Studies, held from February 12 to 17 in Jakarta and Depok, Indonesia.

Ateneo’s ICMSS team, called Team Tala, is composed of Management Engineering seniors Maria Sophia Alexea Arcilla (Team Captain), Beatrice Marie Chan, and Martina Julia Nacion. 

The Indonesia Capital Market Student Studies (ICMSS) is the largest and oldest capital market event in Indonesia held by undergraduate students. The ICMSS aims to empower the public, especially college students, in stepping into the world of capital markets through its international equity research conference, capital market seminar, and investment training. 

The competition was organized by Universitas Indonesia with the support of the Indonesian Stock Exchange and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society Indonesia.

For this year’s ICMSS, Team Tala wrote an initiation report for the stock of Globe Telecom (GLO PM). The top 24 teams in the written report round advanced to the semi-finals held in Indonesia. Team Tala then emerged as one of the top six semi-finalists who advanced to the Grand Finals.

During the Grand Finals, the top six teams presented their research findings to a panel of industry practitioners. The panel of judges included Macquarie Group Head of Equity Research Ari Jahja, BCA Sekuritas Head of Research Andre Benas, Trimegah Securities Head of Research Willinoy Sitorus, and Danareksa Investment Management Chief Investment Officer Herman Tjahjadi.

Team Tala was the only Philippine team among 24 competing semi-finalists and competed with university teams from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. They took home a cash prize of USD900 for their first runner-up finish.

The Banking Academy of Vietnam and Thammasat University won as Grand Champion and second runner-up respectively.

Ateneo previously won as Grand Champion in the 16th ICMSS held last February 2017.
