NETHERLANDS – An investigation over the use by Leiden University of smart cameras showed that it could violate the privacy of its students and employees. According to the school’s data protection officer, the system was not secure enough. As a result, the University Council advised against the continued use of the smart cameras, which the University then heeded. READ MORE

CANADA – The Ontario Tech University refused to comply to an access to information request asking the school to identify the 300 “far-right” extremist groups operating in Canada by citing a provision from the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). USA – Stanford University has disclosed a data breach affecting one of its programs. Unauthorized downloads of files containing admission information occurred between December 2022 and January 2023 due to the misconfiguration of a folder's settings. So far, the university says it has found no evidence that the downloaded information has been misused. READ MORE
