Department of Mathematics celebrates Pi Day!

Pi day is celebrated worldwide on March 14 of every year owing to the first 3 digits of the transcendental number π. This day is also recognized as the International Day of Mathematics.
We invite the community to join us in these events:
Mini Geometry Exhibit
14-15 March 2023, 8am-5pm
SEC-A 309
The exhibit features interesting geometric objects such as polyhedra, origamis, tessellations, dot patterns, and string arts. Participants will also get to create their own unique tiling patterns by cutting the surface of a tetrahedron!
Film Showing: Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani

This documentary tells the story of mathematician and Fields medalist Maryam Mirzakhani. Maryam made history in 2014 as the first woman and first Iranian to win the Fields medal, considered the most prestigious award in mathematics.
Coincidentally, our Pi Day celebration also coincides with another exciting event featuring our very own National Scientist, Fr. Bienvenido F Nebres, SJ.
