Ateneo Debate Society recognized by Philippine Senate for 2023 World Universities Debating Championship win

The Philippine Senate passed a resolution commending the Ateneo Debate Society for their exemplary performance in winning the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) 2023 held in Madrid, Spain last 3 January 2023. The WUDC is the largest debate tournament in the world and the Ateneo Debate Society's win is a historic feat, as it marks the first time a Philippine and Southeast Asian institution has held the WUDC trophy since the tournament was established over 40 years ago.

Senate Resolution No. 404 acknowledges the outstanding achievement of Ateneo Debate Society members David Africa (ADS President, 4 AMDSc) and Tobi Leung (2 BS AMDSc), who emerged as champions of the WUDC 2023. The resolution also highlights the pride and prestige that the victory brings to the Philippines.

The Ateneo Debate Society expressed its gratitude to the Philippine Senate for the recognition, stating that it is an honor to receive such acknowledgment after years of hard work.
