2023 ITSO Platinum Award and Certificate

Ateneo de Manila University, through the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO), received its second Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) last 28 March 2023, during the 2023 ITSO Presidents’ Summit held at the Sequoia Hotel, Parañaque City. The Platinum award is the highest distinction accorded by the IPOPHL exclusively to the country’s top and high-performing Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) under the ITSO 2.0 Clustering Program. Out of the 77 member Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and research institution partners of the ITSO network in the Philippines, 17 were awarded Platinum status, including the Ateneo.

To become eligible for the Platinum category, an ITSO must accomplish all of the following within one calendar year:

  1. Draft and file at least seven (7) invention patents
  2. Successfully commercialize a technology or creative product
  3. Provide at least 24 patent search services to clients
  4. Provide 12 IP awareness campaigns, and
  5. Conduct 2 patent search and drafting workshops

According to the IPOPHL, 2022 saw a record-high in its IP filings, 14.2% higher than the previous record-high in 2016, which is a remarkable rebound from the pandemic. This attests to an improved capability of ITSOs to perform quality prior art and patent information searches, as well as draft specifications of patents. As an ITSO, the AIPO continues to provide quality support to innovators through various collaborative efforts and programs that help strengthen the capacities of their clients. This award continues to be a significant indication of the university's progress toward realizing its vision to be the country’s leading university-based hub where innovative solutions are inspired, protected, and made available for society’s benefit.
