Daniel Canaria wins silver in PH round of Thailand Math Olympiad

Seven Ateneo de Manila Grade School mathletes earned medal awards in the Philippines Heat Round of the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) 2022-2023, which was held online on September 30, 2022. Our sole silver medalist was Daniel Canaria (5-Manobo), who participated in the primary 5 division. Bagging bronzes were Mika Bagain (2-Mulawin), Koko Dela Cruz (5-Maguindanao), Joaquin Marqueda (2-Acacia), Lego Pauig (3-Makiling), Shun Sato (4-Sikatuna), and Miguel Tagarda (3-Taal). Mika and Joaquin joined the primary 2 division, while Lego and Miguel competed in the primary 3 division. Shun competed in the primary 4 division while Koko participated in the primary 5 division.
TIMO is an annual international competition jointly organized by the Olympiad Champion Education Centre (OCEC) from Hong Kong and the Thailand Mathematics Society. It is designed to stimulate and foster young people’s interest in learning mathematics, to strengthen their ability to think creatively, to widen their international perspective, and to promote the development of primary and secondary education and exchange of educational cultures throughout the global community. The regions/countries that participated in TIMO 2022-2023 are Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
