17 Apr 2023
Out of thousands of students from across the country, Ateneo de Manila Senior High School mathletes Steffi Teh (12-Walpole), Enzo Chan (12-Walpole), Evgeny Cruz (12-Miki), and Cassidy Tan (12-Navarro) are among only 20 who are in the shortlist to represent the Philippines in the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad to be held in Japan this July. This, after all four of them were named finalists of the Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) National Round held on March 18-19, 2023, at the UP Diliman campus in Quezon City. In addition, Steffi Teh was named Top Female Contestant of the PMO National Round, for which she received a P5,000 cash prize from For The Women Foundation.
The Philippine Mathematical Olympiad is the oldest and most prestigious nationwide mathematics competition among secondary school students, and is the breeding ground for the country’s representatives to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). This year, 2023, more than 4500 students joined the PMO Qualifying Round. Among these, however, only 20 emerged as finalists, and it is from this pool of 20 where the six mathletes who will represent the Philippines at the 64th IMO will be chosen.
Our mathletes were trained for the PMO Qualifying Stage, PMO Area Stage, and PMO National Stage by Yuria Hojo of the ASHS Math Subject Area. The ASHS School Coordinator for the PMO is Christian Galope, Math Training Team (MTT) moderator.
