Six Ateneo de Manila Grade School boys won medal awards in the Philippine Heat Round of the Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO), which was held online on November 27, 2022. Leading our awardees was Anton Doria (4-Magat Salamat), gold medalist for the primary 4 division, followed by Mika Bagain (2-Mulawin), silver medalist for the primary 2 division.
Bagging bronzes were Daniel Canaria (5-Manobo), Henri Lee (3-Matutum), Shun Sato (4-Sikatuna), and Elliot Peralta (6-Bellarmine). Daniel and Henri competed in the primary 5 and primary 3 divisions, respectively, while Shun and Elliot joined the primary 4 and primary 6 divisions, respectively.
The HKISO is a global science competition held annually for students from Grades 2 to 12. It closely follows the Hongkong School Science Syllabus and tests what students have learned in their level of content in its four main categories (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science), thus allowing them to know their strengths and weaknesses so they can better prepare for the other categories.
As heat round medalists, our boys are invited to join the HKISO Final Round either online or onsite from June 8 -12, 2023. The onsite Olympiad will be held at National University of Singapore and will also give participants from different countries and regions the opportunity to work on a few experiments together.
