Ateneo GS Kindergarten students volunteer to prepare food packs for ACED's Food Packs program
11 May 2023
Last April 13 (Thursday), following the example set by the ADMU Loyola Schools and Senior High School students, 10 sections of Kindergarten students from the Ateneo Grade School (AGS) volunteered to prepare food packs at the Food Packs packing area. They were assigned to work on baguio beans. Some parent volunteers accompanied the students.
This hands-on activity was the culmination of the Kindergarten students' 4th Quarter lessons and activities which were anchored on the theme "I am a child of God. I choose to help my community".
The food packs that the Kindergarten students helped prepare were given to beneficiary public school children and their families as part of ACED’s continuous efforts to address hunger and malnutrition among public school students in order to improve educational outcomes. The weekly food packs that ACED prepares with the aid of volunteers consist of nutritious vegetables, fruits, and root crops sourced directly from various partner farmer communities around Luzon.
When asked about the experience of volunteering in preparing the food packs, the AGS Kindergarten students shared that they felt happy and grateful for the opportunity to help others in their own little way and that they were able to enjoy doing so in the company of their classmates and friends. They also mentioned learning valuable lessons from the experience such as the importance of being generous and sharing one’s blessings with others.
The parent volunteers also had positive things to say about the experience, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to witness their children take part in a good and meaningful hands-on activity that allowed them to be of help to others and make an impact even at a very young age.
Both the Kindergarten students and the parent volunteers expressed that they wish they had more time to help prepare more food packs as they found volunteering for ACED’s Food Packs program to be a truly enriching and fulfilling experience.
