The Ateneo Association of European Studies Students (AEuSS) proudly celebrates the resounding success of its members who participated in the prestigious Philippine International Model United Nations (PHIMUN) 2023, held at the University of the Philippines - Diliman campus from July 7 to 9. The Ateneo delegation, representing the pinnacle of diplomacy and global awareness, showcased their exceptional skills, commitment to international discourse, and dedication to fostering innovative solutions for pressing global issues.
Ateneo delegates demonstrated an unparalleled understanding of multifaceted global problems and engaged in constructive debates that paved the way for unique and impactful solutions. Their participation in PHIMUN 2023 illuminated their potential as future diplomats and leaders who are primed to make significant contributions to the global stage.
The highlight of the event was the remarkable achievement of the Ateneo Model United Nations (AMUN) delegation, which stood out among competitors from various institutions across the Philippines. Leading the pack was Pia David Valencia (2 AB EU), who was awarded the prestigious Albert F. Del Rosario Memorial Award. This esteemed accolade celebrates the legacy of the late secretary and recognizes the delegate who most closely embodies the spirit of a model diplomat, championing their member state's foreign policy, actively participating in committee discussions, and fostering a democratic space for productive exchange of ideas and solutions. She was also awarded United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change - Best Delegate. The Best Delegate Award is given to the delegate who has promoted PHIMUN’s mission of vibrancy, inclusivity, and global citizenship in their committee the most.
Pia's exceptional performance was complemented by her fellow delegates who also brought home recognition and honors. Lester Joseph D. Buitizon (4 AB DipIR), representing Denmark, and James Marcellin C. Tolosa (4 AB MA-POS), representing the USA in the context of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings, were both granted Honorable Mention Awards for their noteworthy contributions to their respective committees. Pia's dedication to global citizenship earned her the title of Best Delegate in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, a testament to her commitment to PHIMUN's mission of inclusivity and vibrancy.
The AEuSS team's outstanding representation extended beyond individual achievements, as the collective spirit of the organization shone brightly in their collaborative efforts. The participants not only showcased their mastery of international relations and diplomacy but also affirmed the essence of AEuSS as the premier student organization for European Studies majors at Ateneo de Manila University.
The triumph of Ateneo delegates at PHIMUN 2023 underscores the university's commitment to nurturing future leaders who possess not only academic excellence but also a deep understanding of global affairs, the spirit of cooperation, and a drive to create positive change on a worldwide scale.
