The present state of the Philippine environment is a continuation of decades of downtrend. Unsustainable practices and indiscriminate natural resource extraction caused the massive degradation of our environment from the upland up to the coastal and marine ecosystems. These resulted in a huge decline in biodiversity and ecosystem functions that pushed the Filipinos, especially the poor, further into the margins.
In this light, the Center for Environmental Concerns, in partnership with the Department of Environmental Science and other organizations, will hold a public forum entitled, Probing the Green Promises: State of the Philippine Environment 2023, at Leong Hall Auditorium, Ateneo de Manila University on August 22, 2023, 1:00PM to 4:00PM.
Objectives
1. Raise public awareness of the state of the Philippine environment one year under President Marcos Jr.’s administration
2. Register critical assessment of the first year of President Marcos Jr.'s administration’s environmental policy and governance performance
