JGSOM faculty speaks at the FinTech Connect Leaders Summit in Singapore

FinTech Connect Leaders Summit 2023
Quantitative Methods and Information Technology Lecturer Armin Paul Allado (BS ME ’12) was one of the speakers in the FinTech Connect Leaders Summit, held last August 28 to 30 in Singapore.

Armin Paul Allado (BS ME ’12), Division Chief at the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) and Lecturer at the Quantitative Methods and Information Technology Department, talked about the digitalization initiatives of the Bureau of the Treasury at the FinTech Connect Leaders Summit Asia in Singapore.

The FinTech Connect Leaders Summit Asia is an annual meeting of senior leaders from Asia-based banks, financial institutions, and financial technology companies. This year, the summit was held at Raffles City Convention Center from 28 to 30 August 2023. Its theme was “Driving The Future of FinTech From Startup To Multinational,” interactive talks and workshops were held about cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology, among others.

Allado shared how despite the increase in the use of mobile payments in the Philippines, financial literacy remained low compared to other Southeast Asian countries. Thus, the BTr collaborated with GCash and regulators to develop Financial Literacy for the Filipino (FiLi), with its goal to promote financial literacy and inclusion. FiLi generates valuable information about cash flow tracking and portfolio management for equity and bond investments.

Allado also tackled streamlining risk and portfolio analytics using predictive analytics and machine learning. With these initiatives, a more accurate prediction of potential government losses can be obtained. Other helpful benefits include having trend signals for the USDPHP foreign exchange rate, which can also be applied to other asset classes.

“Through the use of these technologies, a more accurate forecast of market trends and a deeper understanding of market risk can be achieved,” Allado concluded.
