Student chefs show off their culinary skills for health and sustainability in Table Talks event
30 Sep 2023
As part of the Nutrition Month Program: A Road to a Fresh Start, University partners came together to host “Table Talks: sharing Ideas on comfort foods, sustainability, and keeping it healthy”. The event was held last September 29, 2023 at Ebai’s Cafe and Pastry in Cervini, and was open to all members of the Ateneo community.
For Nutrition Month, the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability has been sharing its expertise in sustainability and diet along with its esteemed partners.
In an exciting cooking competition format, student chefs cooked up meals that were not only delicious, but also nutritious and sustainable. Participants were challenged to rethink their food choices by presenting them with climate-friendly and well-balanced ingredients that they can use in their everyday cooking. The event was a great blend of our warm, familiar comfort meals and cool new ways to reduce our carbon footprints through our diets.
Judges from participating organizations had the pleasure of tasting the talented competitors’ dishes and gave their expertise and insights on taste, nutritional value, and how ingredients are sourced, grown, and processed- all of which are important in considering what ingredients we can consider as alternatives to a healthier and greener diet.
Collaboration between experts and enthusiasts in different fields can make for a more complete picture on sustainable and healthy practices. Table Talks is a great example of how the conversations around climate are intersectional and personal- down to the food we eat.
Table Talks is a fruit of collaboration from the program of the Higher Education Office of Health Services-Loyola Schools and the Ateneo Food Safety, Occupational Safety and Health Committee (OSH) and Nutrition Advisory Council (AFSNAC), with members from other unit offices and student organizations namely: Office of Human Resource Management and Organization Development (OHRMOD), Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS),Office for Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Office of Student Activities (OSA), the Sanggunian ng mga Mag aaral ng Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila (SANGGU), Pre-Medical Society of Ateneo (PMSA), Health Sciences Society of the Ateneo (HSS), Council of Organizations of the Ateneo (COA), Fitness Improvement Team (FIT), Ateneo Resident Students Association (ARSA), Ateneo Biological Association (Ateneo BOx) and Ateneo Peers.
