Ateneo case team are back-to-back champions at annual IIBD International Business Case Competition

04 Nov 2023

Ateneo de Manila University’s team secured the Gold Prize at the prestigious 2023 IIBD International Case Competition held on 3 November 2023, showcasing their exceptional analytical and strategic skills.

The competition was held at the Hong Kong Baptist University campus in Hong Kong, the first in-person edition of the tournament since 2019. The theme of this year's competition was Technology for a Sustainable Future. The winning team was composed of students Monica Sugay (4 BS MGT-H), Julia Chong (4 BS LM), Bea Cuizon (4 AB MEC), and Angela Yu (4 BS ME) who demonstrated their knowledge and expertise in strategic thinking and problem solving as applied to real-life business cases.

IIBD 2023

Coached by Ateneo alumni James Soriano (BS MGT-H 2012), Gabe Sin (BS ME 2018 & BS MA 2019), and Timi Fandino (BS MGT 2019), the team has honored the university with its fifth Gold Prize win in the fifteen-year history of the competition, the most of any participating institution worldwide. Ateneo is also the first institution to become champions in consecutive years. Joining them on the winner's podium was Mahidol University (Thailand) as joint Gold and RMIT University (Vietnam) as Bronze. No team was awarded the Silver Prize this year. The team was also supported by JGSOM faculty members Johnny Filart, Jay Cruz, and Mike Tan.

This achievement continues Ateneo’s remarkable record of excellence, maintaining a consistent presence in the final rounds since 2011 and securing top-three finishes throughout. The IIBD International Case Competition, renowned for challenging students with real-world business scenarios, witnessed Ateneo’s strategic acumen in action. The competition draws together the brightest minds across the globe, and yet again, the students from Ateneo have distinguished themselves through their innovative approaches and solutions.

As they celebrate this triumph, Ateneo de Manila University reinforces its commitment to academic excellence and its role in nurturing future leaders in business and management.
