Academic collab between John Gokongwei School of Management and the Gabelli School of Business to reinforce a century of cooperation

06 Nov 2023

Partnerships for the Goals

The John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) at Ateneo de Manila University and the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University launch a new initiative that builds upon long-standing ties that started more than a century ago with the arrival of the first American Jesuits into the Philippines in 1921. The JGSOM-Gabelli collaboration will facilitate the ability of students to complete their undergraduate and graduate management education across two world-class Jesuit institutions, bridging global learning opportunities from Asia to the United States.

Through an accelerated admissions process, qualified students and alumni of Ateneo de Manila University may enroll in one of the following specialized Master’s programs of the Gabelli School of Business: Media Management, Finance, Marketing Intelligence, Business Analytics, Quantitative Finance or Management.  Successful students will benefit from program two curricula that are mission-aligned across both Jesuit institutions, providing sold technical training in their selected field, exposure to global business practices across two continents, and a holistic personal formation for servant leadership in support of sustainable development.

Throughout the decades, Ateneo and Fordham have continually shared knowledge, resources, and faculty, affirming their commitment to global and transformative education. With the shift of the Jesuit Philippine Mission to the Jesuit Province of Maryland and New York in 1927, many graduates of Fordham have served in Ateneo up until the Philippines became its own Jesuit province and beyond. A number of esteemed Ateneo faculty hold doctoral degrees from Fordham University, including Fr Nemesio Que, SJ; Ricardo Abad, Stephanie Puen, and former Deans Ronald Mendoza and Luis Dumlao. Fordham University has recognized a number of distinguished Filipinos with honorary degrees, including Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle and four Philippine presidents, Diosdado Macapagal, Corazon Aquino, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Benigno Aquino III. Today, Ateneo hosts annual visits by graduate students from the International Political Economy and Development program who conduct their project assessment coursework with the Economics Department.

Dr Roberto Galang, Dean of JGSOM, remarked, “Ateneo’s profound ties with Fordham means that many of our alumni, my relatives included, have traditionally gone on to do graduate studies at the university.  Their success is a testament to the excellence of this combination of the Ateneo and Fordham educational systems in providing the personal formation required for the careers that are designed to make a positive impact on the world.”

Dr Lerzan Aksoy, Dean of the Gabelli School at Fordham University, added, “This new initiative is the culmination of years of friendship and collaboration between our two institutions. Together, we're harnessing our collective strengths to craft the next generation of global business leaders.”

The accelerated application program for Fordham University is open to all graduating students of the John Gokongwei School of Management, and recent Ateneo de Manila University alumni.  For inquiries, at Ateneo de Manila University, please contact the Dean’s Office at dean.jgsom@ateneo.edu.  Dylan Mosenthal, Senior Associate Director of MBA Admissions from Fordham University will be visiting Ateneo de Manila University on 13 November 2023 to provide an in-person information session for the application process for entry into the School Year 2024-2025.
