The School of Humanities mourns the passing of
†
Conrado de Quiros
last Monday, 6 November, at 72.
Mr. de Quiros was an Economics major at the then School of Arts and Letters, Ateneo de Manila University, in 1970-72, during the height of Leftist student activism. He contributed to the school publications Pandayan and Pugadlawi (i.e., Heights reimagined).
Mr. de Quiros is best known as a columnist offering astute political and social commentary for the Philippine Daily Globe and Philippine Daily Inquirer. His columns and essays were collected in several volumes, including Flowers from the Rubble. In the 1990s his writings were often used as reading materials in the freshmen English courses (En 11 and En 12) and in En 26 (Introduction to the Essay) of the college.
"Eternal rest grant unto Conrado de Quiros, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace." Amen.
