The Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC), School of Social Sciences, Ateneo de Manila University hosted a two-day workshop on Digital Health Implementation for Local Government Units (DGI for LGUs) last 23 and 24 November 2023 at the Global Classroom, Ateneo de Manila University campus, Quezon City. Participants from the city governments of Baguio, Pasig, and Iligan, and the provincial governments of Pangasinan and South Cotabato engaged and collaborated in conversations and lectures about digital health for universal healthcare culminated in each LGU’s presentation of a draft ICT and eHealth Development Plan and cost estimates for the implementation thereof.
With support from the DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development and the DOH-Knowledge Management and Information Technology Services Division, the DHI for LGUs workshop serves as part of IPC’s commitment to support the continuing efforts of LGUs towards the implementation of Universal Health Care. This workshop is also an iteration of a larger interdisciplinary capacity-building agenda for digital health implementation in the Philippines that started as a computer science elective course offered to undergraduate students of computer science at the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2023, and replicated as a two-day seminar on special topics in information systems and nursing informatics to undergraduate students of nursing and information systems at the Mindanao State University—Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in September 2023.
