Ateneo wins 2nd runner-up in 23rd FINEX Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition

Students from Ateneo de Manila University placed as second runner-up in the 23rd FINEX Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition (FINEX ICFC), held last 24 October and 24 November.
Ateneo’s FINEX ICFC team is composed of Management Engineering seniors Sinead Dylan P Vallester (Team Captain), Sean Russel N Licayan, Zefanie Gayle H Tan, and Jedric Ivor M. Zafra.
They were supported in their efforts by faculty advisers Alfonso Miguel N Sevidal (BS ME ’17) from the Department of Finance and Accounting and Armin Paul D Allado (BS ME ’12) from the Department of Quantitative Methods and Information Technology, and student trainers Mark Samuel J Santiago (4 BS ME), Juan Miguel L Cardaño (4 BSM AMF), and Janna R Legere (4 BS ME).
The FINEX ICFC is the longest-running finance competition in the Philippines. The competition follows a quiz bee format, covering topics in financial reporting, managerial accounting, economics, capital markets, investment ethics, and current events. It is organized by the junior arm of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX).

Team Ateneo successfully hurdled the elimination round last 27 October, placing first in their division and fourth out of 87 participating schools nationwide. The elimination round was conducted simultaneously in Metro Manila, Baguio, Pampanga, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.
The competing students advanced to the national finals, alongside 19 other teams across the country, held last 24 November at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Assembly Hall. They placed third overall, garnering a score of 740 (out of 1,020 possible points).

De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines-Diliman were awarded champion and first runner-up respectively, garnering final scores of 840 and 780 respectively.
Since the FINEX ICFC’s inception in 1999, the Ateneo has consistently placed in the top three among competing teams. Ateneo’s teams achieved podium finishes 19 times over 23 seasons.
