CALESA activities: Books launched and symposium held

Two significant activities were held as part of the CALESA Project. CALESA is the acronym for “Capacity building for Legal and Social Advancement in the Philippines”. The project is composed of four European universities , four Philippine universities and the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA). The European universities involved are: University of Malaga (UMA), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) University of Deusto and University College Dublin (UCD). The Philippine universities involved are: The University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (Ateneo), University of San Agustin (USA) and Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU).
On November 25, 2023, the “Handbook on Spanish Civil Law Adapted to Philippine Civil Code” volumes 1 and 2 were launched at the PHILJA Training Center in Silang, Cavite.

On December 1, 2023, a symposium entitled “Special Issues on the Best Interests of the Child” was held at the Ateneo School of Law.

Atty Ma Ngina Teresa V Chan Gonzaga, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the Ateneo School of Law opened the program briefly reminiscing of how the CALESA Project first started.
The first speaker, Dr Jose Manual Torres de Perea of Universidad de Malaga, presented the “Best Interest of the Child as the Axis of Family Law”.

Professor Melencio Sta Maria of the Ateneo School of Law shared his insights on the presentation of Dr Torres.
The second speaker was Dr Jose Antonio Castillo Parilla of the Universidad de Granada. Dr Parilla presented, “Sharenting: Sharing Photos of Minors on Social Networks.”
Atty Klarise Anne Estorninos Cajucom of the Ateneo School of Law shared her views on the presentation of Dr. Parilla.
After the presentations, the speakers and reactors entertained some questions from the audience.

Atty Ryan Jeremiah D Quan, Program Officer of the Graduate Legal Studies Institute of the Ateneo School of Law, then presented the launching of new tracks on Dispute Resolution and Health Governance in the LLM Program, and the Enhanced Dispute Resolution Track & New Health Governance Stream under the International Law and Development Track in the JD Program.

The closing remarks was given by Atty Amparita Sta Maria, Director of the Graduate Legal Studies Institute of the Ateneo School of Law.
