A Christmas message from the Vice President for Higher Education
20 Dec 2023 | Dr Maria Luz C Vilches
Greetings of Christmas joy from the office of the Vice President for Higher Education!
The skeptic might ask, what joy? We all know it's not been an easy year. Lots of wrinkles that need ironing out in our relationships and ways of proceeding after having emerged from the pandemic. Lots of bridges to build so we can cross the divides in the sociopolitical and cultural aspects of our lives. Lots of pain watching innocent lives untimely ended in warring nations where peace is hanging in a balance.
But here among us, here in our community, despite our imperfections and differences, I continue to trust in people's commitment to wholeness. I've experienced this community to know how to bear with one another and strengthen bonds of friendships that transcend frail egos. We must continue to uphold this admirable practice. That is where joy comes from. That is where daily acts of kindness dispel loneliness and isolation. That is where the manger in our hearts lives- quiet but deeply nurturing. Christmas reminds us of this miracle of love.
May our Christmas be filled, indeed, with that holy joy that sings the twinkle of the stars and dances the darkness of the night away.
A blessed Christmas and a hope-filled New Year!
Dr Marlu Vilches
