The Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) named the recipients of its annual Youth Excellence in Science (YES) medals in a video streamed on the DOST-SEI Facebook page on December 30, 2023. The medals were awarded to exemplary students from the primary and secondary education levels who won gold, silver, and bronze medals in international STEM competitions in 2022.
The YES awardees who represented Ateneo de Manila in these competitions and who are currently enrolled in Ateneo de Manila Grade School are as follows:

Josh Gonzalez (6-Faber)
Thad Manuel (5-Dumagat)

The YES medal symbolizes the DOST’s recognition of the achievement of the youth in the fields of STEM and its quest to advance STEM diversity, persistence, and success in the Philippines. The award further signifies the Institute’s desire to produce a critical mass of STEM professionals and develop a strong culture of science in the country.
A total of 2,114 young Filipino geniuses from our country’s various regions were conferred the award last December, surpassing the previous mark of 1,802 awardees recorded in 2022. This is the first time in DOST-SEI’s history that the number of YES awardees has reached over 2000.
Of the 2114 medalists, 1012 are from the National Capital Region (NCR). Of these, 23 awardees are currently enrolled in Ateneo de Manila University: 11 from the Grade School, eight from the Junior High School, and four from the Senior High School.
