Lenten Reflection: Right

Lenten Reflection: Right

The idea of what’s right is common. The right time or timing for things to happen. The right measures which balance not having too much or too little. The right place which brings about the results we desire. Such concept of right certainly assumes there is what is wrong, inappropriate or unsuitable which can derail and worsen what may be good.

When it comes to our relationship with God, we may also have a sense of right. The right time or timing to approach Him is when we have problems we need help with or when we have nothing to be sorry about and can face Him without shame. The right measure is for us to do certain things, or say a certain number of prayers, so we will be forgiven and earn His love. The right place to encounter the Lord is only in a church or retreat houses. But these need not be true. If we look at Christ’s life which overflowed with sacrifice, forgiveness and compassion, there is no right time or measure or place for Him when it concerns us. The depth and breadth of His love embraces us whenever we are ready, whatever we have and wherever we choose to be with Him.

We need not concern ourself with what’s right when it comes to the Lord. For we have the right God who loves us in the right way. And that is more than enough. Perhaps we should only ask ourself these: How am I allowing Jesus to make things right for me? What can I do to open myself more to the graces of the Father? Which aspects of myself and my journey need His light?
