On 16 February 2024, the Ateneo School of Government, through the Ateneo Policy Center, organized a technological transfer session, via Zoom, for its study counterparts from the Congressional Policy and Budget Research Department (CPBRD) of the House of Representatives (HRep). The said study titled, “Outlook and Policy Options for Philippine Employment Towards 2040”, is a research collaboration with the Ateneo Center for Economic and Research Development, in support of the 8-point Agenda under the HRep - Ateneo de Manila University Evidence-based Research Project.
Dr Philip Arnold P Tuaño, one of the study fellows and Dean of the Ateneo School of Government, delivered the opening remarks. Followed by a brief response from Ms. Elsie C. Gutierrez, Service Director of Economic Policy Research Service at CPBRD.
During the session, two of the study’s co-authors, Mr Czar Joseph Castillo and Mr Cymon Kyle Lubangco, talked about the different methodologies that were used in the study. Mr Castillo presented an overview of the computable general equilibrium (CGE) model and discussed how to build a social accounting matrix. Meanwhile, Mr Lubangco presented an introduction to micro-modeling techniques. These models helped to simulate changes in the Philippine labor market, based on the country’s labor data, from 2024 to 2040.
To end the session, one of the study fellows, Prof Joselito T Sescon, gave his closing remarks.
