ASOG Dean discusses economic outlook in House deliberations on constitutional amendments
01 Mar 2024
On 26 February 2024, ASOG Dean Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, and former ASOG Dean and APC Senior Economist and Senior Research Fellow Dr. Ronald U. Mendoza, served as resource persons during the deliberations of the Committee of the Whole House on Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 7, which proposes amendments to the 1987 Philippine Constitution’s restrictive economic provisions at the House of Representatives of the Philippines.
The said resolution is an exact reproduction of RBH 06 which proposed constitutional amendments on the ownership of public utilities, ownership of basic educational facilities, and advertising. In the said committee meeting, Dean Tuaño highlighted the importance of the 4th industrial revolution, whereas automation, the internet of things, artificial intelligence, and knowledge-based economics may all be considered as essential in enhancing the Philippines’ global competitiveness. All of which are hindered by current restrictive policies in the country.
At present, ASOG continues to pursue its mission to work with policymakers in providing technical assistance for evidence-based discourse on selected social, political, and economic issues in the country.
