Lenten Reflection: Thoughts, Visions and Words

Lenten Reflection: Thoughts, Visions and Words

They say that when we often think of something, we may begin to see more of it around us – imagined or real. In addition, whether intentional or slips of the tongue, what occupies our minds can also come out in what we say. Perhaps that’s the power of the brain, that it can control us. At the same time, this can also reflect how cohesive and consistent we are as persons such that our thoughts become our vision and our words.

If we go back to the life of Jesus and the narrative of His passion, we will observe how this was also true for Him. His mind, and for sure even His heart, was filled with love: love of and from the Father, love for us. He was committed to speaking and bringing about His Father’s Kingdom. His vision and words always involved our salvation and healing. And even during times of pain and anger, there was never a moment when He let go of loving us and loving His Creator.

Perhaps we can never be as focused on God as how He has always been committed to us. But we can be more mindful of what occupies our mind which is expressed in what we notice and what we utter. What fills your vision and words? How do love and the Lord manifest in what you see and what you say? What may be clouding your thoughts, taking you away from what’s truly important?
