Step into "The World According to Charlie Co" this 16 March at the Ateneo Art Gallery

The Ateneo Art Gallery opens its newest exhibition, The World According to Charlie Co: Drawings, Paintings, Sculptures and Mixed Media Works, this 16 March, Saturday at the Wilson L Sy Prints and Drawings Gallery. Following its first mounting in 2020, guests can look forward to added works in the 2024 iteration, ranging from paintings to mixed media works from the artist’s personal collection.

Charlie Co continues to chronicle his world and environment through the graphic medium of drawing. In The World According to Charlie Co, the exhibition presents various pieces collected over nearly four decades of artistic practice. These illustrations record his life in Bacolod, his views toward global and environmental issues, and other current socio-political concerns. Often vibrant and allegorical in his works, Co has used drawing for many years to process his own personal experiences; considering it integral to his own creative practice. By recalling the images that he had seen, the emotions, and the experiences connected to them, Charlie Co creates his own reality through drawing.

The exhibition also coincides with the opening of another show, Matrix II: Women Artists from the Collection of the Ateneo Art Gallery and Ambeth R. Ocampo, which features over 40 women artists in celebration of Women’s Month this March. Matrix II is slated to run until 3 August 2024 at the upper ground floor’s Mr & Mrs Ching Tan and Mr & Mrs Chung Te Galleries.

Furthermore, the Ateneo Art Gallery will be offering special museum hours for a limited time only. Effective 17 March to 6 July 2024, guests may also visit the museum on Sundays, from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Museum operations remain closed on regular and University holidays. 

The World According to Charlie Co: Drawings, Paintings, Sculptures and Mixed Media Work is on-view from 16 March to 15 June 2024 at the Wilson L Sy Prints and Drawings Gallery, 2F Ateneo Art Gallery. The museum is open Monday to Saturday, 9:00am – 5:00pm, and on Sunday, 9:00am – 4:00pm. Museum operations remain closed on regular and University holidays.
