AJHS mathlete Gerrico Argonza bags bronze for PH in ‘Battle of the Gold’ Olympiad
18 Mar 2024
Ateneo de Manila Junior High School mathlete Gerrico Argonza (8-Fernandes) bagged a bronze for the Philippines in the World International Mathematical Olympiad (WIMO) on January 7, 2024. The Olympiad was held at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The WIMO is known as the “Battle of the Gold” because only gold medalists from the final rounds of the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO), Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO), or Big Bay Bei Guangdong-Hongkong-Macau International Olympiad can compete in the WIMO. (In Gerrico's case, it was a gold in the HKIMO Final Round that qualified him to compete in the WIMO: https://www.ateneo.edu/.../argonza-wins-gold-hong-kong... )
Gerrico was also chosen to be the flag bearer of the Philippines in the WIMO. He also paid tribute to the AJHS by attaching a Blue Eagle pin to his collar (see photos above and below).
